Atlas NextWave has launched She Goes Offshore, a workforce initiative designed to create practical pathways for more women into offshore energy careers and help employers access a broader talent pool. First developed in Mexico, the initiative was officially introduced on 5 September at the Port of Veracruz, where more than 100 participants came together to explore opportunities for women in the offshore industry.
Looking beyond the traditional talent pool
Across the offshore energy industry, improving workforce diversity remains an important ambition.
However, women continue to be underrepresented in offshore roles, while many with valuable
skills and experience from maritime and related industries lack a c lear route into the sector.
Rather than focusing exclusively on professionals who have already worked offshore, Atlas
NextWave recognised an opportunity to create a clearer route between women with relevant
transferable skills and employers seeking to build a broader offshore workfor ce. The first She
Goes Offshore event brought together female industry leaders, professionals interested in
offshore careers and maritime students preparing to enter the workforce. Participants received
industry insight, practical information and a better understanding of offshore careers and working
environments.
Lourdes Landa Thierry, Business Director South America & Mexico at Atlas NextWave, said: “The
challenge is not a lack of talented women. The challenge is creating a stronger connection
between women with relevant skills and an offshore industry that has tr aditionally been difficult to
access. She Goes Offshore is about helping to build that bridge.”
Creating real opportunities
Atlas NextWave is taking a considered approach to developing She Goes Offshore. Different
markets present different opportunities and challenges, so the initiative will continue to evolve
through feedback from women, collaboration with clients and industry partners, and a clear focus
on safeguarding, duty of care and the quality of the working environment.
Alma Quintero, Business Manager Mexico at Atlas NextWave, said: “We want She Goes Offshore
to create real opportunities, not simply awareness. That means listening to women, understanding
the barriers they experience and working with employers that genuine ly want to create the right
environment for women to build successful offshore careers.”
Following the launch in Mexico, the next She Goes Offshore activity is planned in Guyana. Atlas
NextWave will use the experience and feedback gained in Veracruz to explore how the initiative
can support women and employers in another developing offshore market.
